Supporting Safer Adrenal Crisis Care

The Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) has launched a national advocacy campaign to improve emergency treatment and patient safety for people at risk of adrenal crisis. The campaign was sparked by the discontinuation of liquid hydrocortisone in the UK, which has left many patients relying on a more complex emergency injection process that can be difficult to use in a life-threatening situation.
The campaign is calling for simpler emergency hydrocortisone treatments, including the licensing of easier-to-use injection systems and the development of pre-filled syringes or auto-injectors. It is also advocating for more consistent recognition and treatment of adrenal crisis across NHS services.
ADSHG has already engaged with government, regulators, clinicians and MPs to raise awareness of these issues, with growing political support for improving adrenal crisis care.
We welcome this important work and encourage our community to learn more about the campaign and support efforts to ensure faster, safer and more consistent emergency care for everyone living with adrenal insufficiency.
